Greenwood Unity CV2GIP - Smart Features

  1. Performance, performance, performance!
The original dMEV solution, Unity CV2GIP has been designed to ensure Guaranteed Installed Performance is achieved for Building Regulation compliance and sign off. With 100% adjustability, Unity can be set at the point of installation, tested and signed off to the airflow rates set out in ADF:2010 without over or under ventilating, or adjusting itself once installed, which itself can cause nuisance noise. For dMEV the mixed flow impellor is ideal and good practice for retaining low energy consumption as continuous ventilation rates are low, e.g. 5 l/s up to 13 l/s, meaning that ducting resistance will cause minimal impact on performance.
  2. Greenwood CommissionSMART™
To enable a simple on-site process and ensure GIP is easy to achieve, CV2GIP has been designed with the first ever SMART Pad which is located at the front of the unit. Once on-site, the installer simply sets up the unit by selecting the room type, trickle or boost speeds and then turning controls, such as humidity and timer, on. No more dip switches located at the back of the unit - a simpler, SMARTer and better way of assisting the delivery of Guaranteed Installed Performance and keeping installers happy.
  3. Greenwood GIP product - 100% adjustability
Unity CV2GIP is a Greenwood GIP product - designed to assist in the delivery of Guaranteed Installed Performance easily. Using the innovative SMART pad, located at the front of the unit, installers simply select the room, e.g. kitchen or bathroom, and then, using the + and - buttons, can simply increase the speed of the fan in 1 l/s increments. With on-site testing now happening for regulation compliance, and walls and ceilings all having an impact on performance, the need for adjustability is crucial.
  4. Greenwood TimerSMART™
A SMARTer way of ensuring ventilation is delivered effectively to a home - using duration of occupancy to determine the length of time the fan overruns in boost mode rather than a pre-set generic time of, say, 15 minutes. In the bathroom for 10 minutes - overrun on boost speed for 10 minutes. A simple and logical approach to reducing nuisance noise, nuisance running and unnecessary heat loss, keeping energy performance as low as possible.
  5. Discreet and very quiet running
With a circular design and finish, Unity CV2GIP has been designed to blend effortlessly with its background and will look fabulous with any bathroom or kitchen décor style. To support this, Unity CV2GIP has also been designed with very low running noise - as low as 10dB(A) on trickle speed.

* IPX5 rated for walls, IPX4 rated for ceilings

A Continuously Running Bathroom and Kitchen Fan: Smart Ventilation!

A home is usually fitted with a bathroom fan, which can be with a timer or humidistat (or both), but now there's a way to have smart ventilation - a continuously running bathroom and kitchen fan! They call them dMEV - decentralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation, and they comply with System 3 in the current Building Regulations. We warmly recommend this continuously running fan - which can be placed anywhere in the house - since it is a single unit that can run both in the kitchen and in wet areas. It comes with an ultra-low energy DC motor and mixed flow impellor. What is a dMEV Fan? How does it work?A decentralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation Fan (dMEV) is commonly known as a continuous extract ventilation fan. It provides a constant low-level background ventilation to wet rooms such as bathrooms, toilets, ensuites, kitchens, etc and it comes with a boost feature as and when it is required. The fan is always ON - it is always running, and it provides five times more ventilation than intermittent fans, helping you protect against condensation and mould growth, for it ensures that quality air is always circulating. The way a dMEV works - in particular, the Greenwood Unity dMEV, is by continuously extracting the air from the room it is installed at a low rate, and there's a boosting when required. The boost function is either by an independent switch or automatically via humidity sensing, depending on how you set it up at installation. The constant ventilation helps reduce steam and smells created by everyday activities such as cooking, bathing, and showering. It helps promote effective ventilation which helps to create a healthy living environment and reduce the symptoms of asthma and other health conditions. Buy Greenwood Unity CV2 dMEV FanGreenwood Unity CV2 dMEV Fan - Smart Ventilation FeaturesHere are some of the smart features of the Greenwood Unity CV2 dMEV Fan:Ultra-low ventilation fan - it has an annual running cost of less than the price of a jar of coffee! It is designed to do the job it is supposed to do without costing the earth. Low noise emission: since it is a continuously running fan, the pitch or frequency of the noise is very low. It is designed to operate quietly. This is achieved through a combination of innovative motor, electronics, and aerodynamic impeller design. Save energy: because this fan only operates boost when required or programmed, it helps you save energy. Less electricity is used, which means the fan has a positive impact on your bills! It therefore contributes to a reduction in the carbon footprint of the home.Moisture and odours are continually eliminated: because it is constantly running, the Greenwood Unity CV2 dMEV Fan helps prevent moisture from rooms such as the toilet, the bathroom, the kitchen, etc spreading into other rooms. It offers humidity control at the source and draws out the moisture in your home. In this way, dampness is eliminated constantly. Great for installation in shallow ceiling voids: it has a 68mm spigot design, making it perfect for applications in shallow ceiling voids. 100% Variable airflow feature: this unique feature offers peace of mind to installers that Building Regulation compliance can be easily achieved. Smart touchpad: located on the front panel, it removes the need for battling with fiddly switches on the back of the fan. Straightforward, set it up with the options you require. High IP rating: whether used in the kitchen or in the bathroom, it has an IPX5 wall rating for wall mounting and an IPX4 rating for ceiling mounting. Suitable for zones 1 and 2 in the bathroom. Smart technology features, including automatic humidity sensing and a logical approach to overrunning, help to reduce heat loss and energy waste. Discreet and stylish design helps it to blend in with its environment. In conclusion, the Greenwood Unity CV2 dMEV Fan embodies the one product concept: one fan, any room, all installations! It is the first continuously running fan to truly assist in the delivery of guaranteed installed performance.Set up and Control your Smart Continuous Ventilation FanThe installation and setting up of this fan needs to be done by a qualified electrician, but it cannot be more simply. It can be safely installed in the kitchen, bathroom, utility room, WC/cloakroom, ensuite bath/shower room, etc. The specific fan operation of this fan varies depending on the way it has been installed. You can have trickle speed (operating on a continual basis) or boost speed (activated manually using the GS2 switch or via the light room switch). The TimerSMART monitors the length of time that there's an occupancy presence within a wet room (via the "switch-live") and provides a fixed over-run time period to best match the length of time that the "switch live" is active. This removes nuisance running noise and unnecessary energy wastage typically associated with traditional timers. The HumidiSMART monitors the ambient humidity within the wt room environment and looks for short peaks of humidity made either by showering or bathing. It ensures that the fan is not on boost for prolonged periods of time, removing nuisance running noise and unnecessary energy wastage typically associated with increases to background humidity which naturally occurs with the changing seasons. Set up the Greenwood Unity CV2 dMEV Fan - the Control panelVia the Control panel, you can select at installation what settings you require. If the fan is in a bathroom, toilet, or ensuite, select the "Bathroom" option, and if it is in the kitchen, select the "Kitchen" option. If you want it to run continuously, select the Trickle Mode, and if you need a boost, activate the Boost mode. You can also select the HumidiSMART ON/OFF and TimerSMART ON/OFF via the buttons there. You can commission the fan during the installation in order to provide the correct airflow requirements for your dwelling. Having a Smart Home that is also Safe: Safer Smarter Homes

These days there are so many smart things, smart devices, and smart technologies that can make our home smarter; as we have a smart home, we also need to make sure it is safe. We were recently consulting the, Safer and Smarter Home guide by Electrical Safety First and we were inspired to bring some of these details to the forefront for our customers and visitors also.Keep reading this guide to find out more about: Having a Smart Home - BenefitsHaving a Smart Home that is also Safe!As of today, May 2024, some many smart devices and sensors can be installed or used in our home, including:Smart camerasSmart door locksSmart video monitoring systemSmart shades systemSmart water controlSmart heat control devicesSmart access controlSmart weather devicesSmart lightsSmart sensorsSmart WifiSmart Solar PanelsSmart multimedia controlsSmart climate controlsSmart flood sensorsSmart alarm systemSmart garage doorIn a sense, there's a smart device for any aspect of our daily life and for every part of the home, and many modern people rush into getting this and that smart device, only to discover that, eventually, some devices don't work with one another while others are complicated to set up and maintain, and still others die suddenly. When the smart devices work, life is bliss, but when there are problems, life tends to be a mess. We need to learn to measure and manage the smart home in a proper way so that it can be not just a smart home but also a safe home. If we install the smart things as the manufacturer intends and instructs, they assist us and even improve certain aspects of our lives. However, we need to be aware of some of the dangers or hazards involved in having and using smart devices around the house and have a smart home that is also safe. Having a Smart Home - BenefitsAs we live in this post-pandemic world, we realize that we have an increasing need for electronic devices that are interconnected. Actually, the pandemic accelerated the use of electronic devices and smart devices, both for leisure and for work, and we realize how easier life can be when we have them around. There are some great benefits of having a smart home, which include:Energy Saving by Controlling, Monitoring, and Saving Energy with Smart DevicesWhen we have connected devices that help us monitor our heating, water, and energy usage, we can control it better, keep track of what we're using, and reduce costs. We can be notified when there's an excess of water or energy used, and we know for sure that the bill will be lower when we use energy-saving LED Lamps and LED light fittings. We will be aware of how much we spend on using heat pumps and the electric boiler, and we will reduce the cost when switching to smarter heating systems. Buy Intelligent Thermostats at SparksHaving a Smart Home when we Work from HomeIf there's one thing the pandemic showed us is that many of us can work from home, at least partially. We do relax and unwind at home, but at the same time, we work either part-time or full-time from home. Smart devices and smart sensors in our home, paired together with smart control systems, can make our lives simpler and our work-from-home experience much more enjoyable. We may learn how to set up our home network, TV, audio, lighting, and other smart systems around the house. ConvenienceOne of the best benefits of having a smart home that is also safe is convenience. Having voice-activated assistants and touchscreen control of the systems around the house is very convenient. And many times we can remotely control and adjust the smart devices in our home - even when we're at the office or on holiday. For example, we may want to make sure the house is warm when we get back from holiday, so we remotely adjust the heating. We can even set up individual lighting schemes based on our needs or according to our mood. SecurityWith the rise in the smart doorbells, it is so easy to install one and remotely answer the door or greet your guests. Even without opening the door, we can chat with visitors or mailmen. Furthermore, there are many security systems that can be installed around the house and in the house to monitor the premises. There are also smart locks that can be used to open the door and allow specific people to come in, based on their credentials and security access. SafetySome of the smart devices we use in our home can monitor whether we have left an appliance on or off, and we can see whether we can turn it off remotely. We can avoid potential fire hazards by using smart technology, turning the electricity or heating off remotely. For instance, some smart home sensors can detect temperature, levels of carbon dioxide, or water leaks, and they notify the homeowner. We at Sparks sell a range of smart Fire Alarms and Heat Alarms by Aico, incorporating AudioLINK+ and alsoRadioLINK+ technology. For those who are elderly or disabled, there are smart home technologies and devices that can make a great difference to their quality of life and guarantee the peace of mind of the caregivers. Automatic sensors can be installed to check if a cooker has been left ON or a bath is overflowing. The light can be automatically turned on when presence is detected and off when someone leaves the room. Voice-controlled smart home devices also help people with limited mobility by making common household appliances easy to use. A Smart Home Can Improve Well-beingHaving a smart home and interconnected smart devices can also enhance personal well-being.Many health-related devices monitor and alert you regarding different health conditions and anomalies. Many smart routines can be set up in the home to help with sleep and living patterns. There are smart air filtration systems and dehumidifiers to purify and ventilate the air. For example, at Sparks, we sell a range of dMEV ventilation systems which come on when moisture is detected, and they run slowly in the background when they are not needed. Buy iConstant dMEV FansHaving a Smart Home that is also Safe: Safer Smarter HomesWhen we consider the smart devices, sensors, and technologies that can be installed and used around the home, it's not the fire hazards that are more common but the nuisance related to installing, maintaining, interlinking, controlling, warranty, fixing, and taking care of these smart things. It is important to consider certain matters when planning to buy smart things for the house. It is important to consider that the smart home is also safe - there's a need for safer smarter homes. Here is a list of questions to consider before purchasing a new piece of technology that is smart and can improve our life at home:Will this smart device work with my other smart devices? We need to know what system we use at home, how the smart devices interconnect, and how will this new device interconnect and relate to the other devices. Some competitor technologies and manufacturers do not interoperate, so we can save ourselves the frustration of trying to make them work together by making sure this happens before we buy them. Buy Aico Smart Fire AlarmsDoes this smart device use Bluetooth or wifi? Can my wifi cover it?Some smart devices require a good wifi connection, while others connect via Bluetooth. Before purchasing any smart device, we need to consider if we have enough wifi coverage to reach that device and whether we can use Bluetooth to reach it if Bluetooth is required. Software updates: how long are they guaranteed? It is imperative to know beforehand if the smart device we purchase is guaranteed for at least 2-3 years to have software updates by the manufacturer. Regular software updates improve the smart device and patch any issues or errors. How long do we have after-sales support? Is there online support? We may think we know everything we need to know about a particular smart device, for we studied it and we know it inside out, but it's best to know before buying whether we have after-sales support, and for how long. Also, we need to know the place online where we can get support, first by registering the product and then by enquiring with them about different issues that may arise. Is this smart device the real thing?Sometimes the price of a smart device is so low that we're ready to buy it; however, we need to make sure we buy the right thing, the device made by that manufacturer, and not any counterfeit device. For example, we at Sparks sell smart devices made by Forum Lighting, Danfoss, and Aico, among others, and we sell original products made by these manufacturers. Is my personal data safe? Many times our personal data and device usage is stored in the cloud, so we need to make sure that our personal data is safe before purchasing a product. If a particular manufacturer has a track record of being lax about their security and there are data breaches, it is not recommended to purchase smart devices from them. What's the backup plan for when this smart device fails? No one wants to think about this, but it is an important point to consider. If the smart device we're about to buy will fail, what's the backup plan? Let's say we replace our doorbell with a smart one, and the smart doorbell fails; what is our backup plan? Note: all the above tips are inspired by the Electrical Safety First guide to Smart Home and Safety - guides 1 and 2. At Sparks, we sell a limited amount of smart devices, but we want to make sure all our visitors and customers are safe when purchasing and using smart devices for a smart home - even a smarter safer home.

How Ventilation can help Tackle Allergies, Asthma, Hay Fever, and Pet Dander

Asthma is a long-term condition that affects your airways, which transport air in and out of your lungs. Sufferers of asthma have sensitive airways that are inflamed and ready to react when they come into contact with certain airborne particles. When asthma is triggered there will be a varying degree of symptoms. These include the tightening of the airways, so they become more narrow. The lining of these airways will become inflamed and start to swell. This will cause mucus or phlegm build up, further narrowing the airways. This is a very serious ailment that can be fatal, in cases of serious asthma attacks. Three people die every day due to this condition. More people die each year due to asthma than cervical and testicular cancer combined. There is no cure for asthma as of yet - only preventative measures, such as asthma inhalers and medicines. A hugely important role in preventing asthma attacks is identifying what causes them and eliminating these threats. This is partly achieved with quality ventilation that keeps an environment of clean air around sufferers of asthma. There are other serious allergies that are aggravated by poor quality air such as hay fever, eczema and pet dander. In this article, Sparks will examine how ventilation manufacturers have sought to help with the devastating problems caused by asthma and other allergies. What triggers asthma attacks? Practically any airborne particles that irritate the airways can trigger asthma. These can differ from person to person. Certain asthma sufferers will be more susceptible to triggers than others. There are many common causes of asthma triggers around the house. These include: House dust mites. Tobacco smoke. Animal fur. Mould and fungi. Pollen. Humid, dry air. Stress. There are preventative measures needed to stop these triggers, which include medicines, lifestyle advice, and avoiding the triggers altogether. When looking at the list of main factors that cause asthma attacks, it is clear good ventilation is probably the best preventative measure. How ventilation can help prevent asthma and eczema: tackling dust mites Dust mites are the primary trigger for asthma sufferers. Researchers estimate they may cause up to 80% off all asthma attacks, as well as countless cases of eczema. Eczema is a condition that causes your skin to become itchy, red, dry and cracked. It is a chronic condition for most people who have it. As you may be able to infer from their name, dust mites thrive in dusty, unclean environments. Their main breeding ground is in unwashed bedding and unclean carpets. Their only source of water is from the air so they can only live in areas where humidity is relatively high. The higher the levels of humidity, the easier it is for them to breed. The fastest and most efficient way to reduce the population of dust mites in your home is by providing great ventilation. Envirovent sells a range of ventilation systems for all areas of your home. They are best situated to combat dust mites anywhere where there is bedding, curtains and carpets. Their ventilation systems provide constant fresh air to decrease humidity levels within the home. Controlling dust mite population will help asthma and dust mite sufferers alike breathe far easier. There are other simple methods for getting rid of dust mites: Wash your bed linen every week at 60 degrees. Use specially designed 'allergy' covers for your pillows, duvet, and mattresses. Clean and vacuum your home on a regular basis. Allow fresh air in through the windows Consider installing a whole-house ventilation system to supply a continuous source of fresh, filtered clean air. By keeping your home well ventilated you are driving humidity levels down. This decreases the dust mite population of your house: a strong step in tackling asthma and eczema triggers.Envirovent Fans at Sparks How ventilation can help tackle hay fever Hay fever is a widespread allergy which affects approximately 1 in 5 people in the UK and is caused by an allergic reaction to pollen in the air. Hay fever is normally associated with grass or hay pollen, the most common being grass pollen. Grass pollen tends to affect people each year from late spring to early summer. Of course, grass pollen is not the sole cause of hay fever by any means. Tree pollen usually triggers reactions in sufferers from early spring to late spring. Meanwhile, nettles and docks (weed pollen) pollinate from early spring until early autumn. This means summer is not an exclusive season where hay fever symptoms may hit. Due to its seasonal nature. hay fever is also known as seasonal allergic rhinitis. It is made more manageable than asthma as its triggers can be predicted by the time of year. The main symptoms of hay fever are: An itchy nose. Watering eyes. An itchy throat. A blocked nose. Unusual amounts of sneezing. Headaches. An aching face. The symptoms will vary from person to person, and some sufferers may have it ‘easier’ than others, for instance, if they only get watering eyes and a slightly blocked nose. However, for others, the symptoms may be so severe that they will affect their sleep patterns and interfere with their education or work. The main demographic affected by hay fever are children and teenagers. Thankfully, much of the time the condition improves or simply goes away. Unfortunately, if you have one allergy you are more likely to suffer from others. If you have asthma or eczema, there is an increased chance you will develop hay fever (and vice versa). A reliable factor in combating hay fever is the same for asthma and eczema: quality ventilation. Check out Envirovent’s Silent: a range of quiet, eco-friendly extract fans that can placed virtually anywhere indoors.Buy Ventilation Fans at Sparks How ventilation can help tackle pet dander Over half the UK’s households have a pet. Unfortunately, allergies to our furry friends are very common, as there are 4.8 million estimated sufferers in the UK. ‘Pet dander’ describes the dead skin cells that animals naturally shed from their bodies. The flakes of skin are triggers which can cause an allergic reaction in some people. Those who are allergic to pet dander often suffer from the following symptoms: Itchy eyes. Constant sneezing. Nasal congestion. Wheezing. Pet allergens are tough to deal with due to their shape and size. They can easily embed themselves in bedding, fabrics, and furniture. The following precautions may help with pet dander: Replace carpets with laminated or hardwood floors. Switch curtains for blinds. Make areas such as your bedroom ‘pet-free zones’. Always wash your hands after interacting with your pet. Regularly clean the rooms where your pet sleeps. Keep your home well-ventilated and do not allow dust to accumulate.Airflow Fans at Sparks How to prevent ‘Toxic Home Syndrome’ impacting your health Professional Electrician published an article on all these pollutants, which can combine to cause ‘Toxic Home Syndrome’. They advised on Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) as a ‘whole home’ solution. They also recommended de-centralised mechanical extract fans (dMEV) as a: quiet and unobtrusive ventilation option (that)… extracts moist air that causes condensation and mould, and replaces it with clean, fresh air that is circulated internally. Both MVHR and dMEV solutions are available through Sparks, including Envirovent’s many efficient ventilation products.

Energy Efficient Ventilation Accompanies the Green Deal Initiative (EWnews)

We love the Electrical Wholesalers magazine, coming out monthly and being distributed in all the electrical stores around the country. It helps to know what's new in the industry, whether or not you hear about it via official communications, TV, media, etc. The Green Deal, for instance, "looks set to be the most ambitious refurbishment program in the UK ever, but energy efficient improvements must not be at the expense of outdoor air quality." (Lee Nurse, Vent-Axia, quoted in the April 2013 issue) The Green Deal: Don't Forget Ventilation! Energy efficient ventilation is an important accompaniment to the Green Deal initiative, and it offers a potential opportunity for contractors and electrical wholesalers alike. "Under the Green Deal, energy bill payers are able to obtain energy efficiency improvements, such as loft insulation, solid wall insulation, and new heating systems, without having to pay immediately. Instead, business will provide the capital, and obtain their money back over time via the customer's energy bill. Central to this strategy is the requirement that the estimated savings on the bill will always equal or exceed the cost of the work - this is called the 'Golden Rule'." Addressing the Issue of Ventilation In the article in EW news, Lee Nurse from Vent-Axia continues, "...despite continuous room heat recovery offering energy efficient ventilation that recovers heat, its benefit is difficult to measure. As a result it cannot meet the Green Deal's 'Golden Rule'. However, if you insulate a home without improving ventilation it can result in condensation and mould." Already in the UK one in five homes are affected by condensation and mould growth (according to the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors). If people don't take care to ensure adequate ventilation, high levels of humidity can lead to growth in dust mite populations, which can affect people's comfort and health. This is an excellent opportunity for many electrical wholesalers - among which Sparks Electrical Wholesalers Ltd takes the lead - to supply contractors and homeowners with the ideal solutions for these projects.Energy Efficient Ventilation at Sparks The Green Package - Energy Efficient It is very important to start right: make the air as tight as possible at home, with proper insulation and double glazing! Ventilation is necessary for maintaining healthy indoor air quality. The emphasis will be more and more on continuous Decentralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation (dMEV) systems, many of which can be found on our website since they provide effective and affordable solutions with low running costs. They work with the natural air infiltration and they control the air path through the home, preventing the migration of damaging humidity and pollutants. Refurbish Tight and Ventilate Right! In the Green Deal's "Golden Rule" there may be no specification about energy efficient ventilation, but it is definitely essential to it. Yes, refurbish tight and make sure there's double glazing and insulation, but at the same time you have to ensure there's no poor air quality and condensation. Refurbish Tight and Ventilate Right! Read more on the Green Deal via this and this article, and purchase dMEV solutions via our website. Vent-Axia is a reputable air flow and air ventilation solution for both domestic and commercial use, and their fans can be purchased online via Sparks.
