The CP Electronics SPIR-F/C ceiling-mounted PIR movement sensor with Lux level sensing can be used to control your lighting, ventilation and heating. It is a back-box mounted PIR occupancy sensor for ceiling mounting.

It is a surface mounted movement sensor which can be easily mounted onto a single gang standard back box (the back box is not included). This is the basic switching version for ceiling mounting, back box mounted, PIR occupancy sensor.

Among its key features are the presence detection and lux level sensing for Auto switching ON or OFF the lighting, heating, or ventilation. It works with any type of lamp, including the LED lamps, and the time delay and lux settings can be adjusted via pots.

Ceiling Mounted PIR Occupancy Sensor - Features

  • It provides automatic control of lighting, heating, or ventilation loads.
  • It detects movement using a PIR sensor and turns the load ON; when the area is no longer occupied, the load will switch OFF after an adjustable time out period.
  • It works with any type of lamp, including LED.
  • It has an internal light sensor to provide additional energy saving in lighting applications. This means that, when an area is occupied, lighting is only switched ON when the level of natural light is below a preset level.
  • When the unit is first powered up, the PIR sensor will always detect immediately regardless of whether the room is occupied.
  • Recommended height of max. 3-4m on the ceiling. When installing, avoid direct sunlight entering the sensor, don't site within 1m of forced air heating or ventilation, don't site within 1m of any lighting, and do not fix on a vibrating surface.
  • LUX level sensing detectors only turn lights on when natural light falls below a pre-set level.
  • Time delay function (manual adjustment): The period of time set on a sensor that holds lights on after the last movement is detected.

Microwave Occupancy Detectors: Are They Better or Worse than PIR Sensors?

We talked about motion sensors on the blog recently, but most of the items in our store are Passive Infra-Red (PIR) devices, which are great - but they're not all we have. In the Sparks Direct store, you'll also find a couple of microwave motion detectors: a completely different technology. How do They Work?  A microwave motion detector emits pulses of specific microwave frequencies and then measures reflection off objects (like walls) when those waves return to the sensor. In this manner, the whole area of detection is filled, and the reflections change when there is a moving object (like a person) in the area. It works very much like the radar guns used by police to catch speeding drivers in the act - these detectors 'sense' motion in terms of speed and size, as opposed to a PIR sensor which senses in terms of heat and light.Benefits The reflection mechanism means that the line-of-sight problems of PIR sensors - the effect that means a sensor can't detect movement if it occurs around the corner - is reduced, and the microwaves emitted can penetrate most building materials. This means that sensors integrated into light fittings can be protected against dust and moisture intake by design. They are also affected by background temperature, in contrast with PIR sensors which often don't operate well above 35° Celsius. Microwave occupancy detectors have a considerable lifespan of around 100,000 hours. Any worries about microwave radiation should be curbed; the devices in our store are very low-power and pose no threat. Drawbacks However, although these sensors detect motion through wood and most building materials, microwaves do not penetrate metals. Metal objects act as a shield, which creates shadows or "dead zones" behind them. Also, everyday movements such as objects blowing in the wind can trigger a false alarm - even fluorescent lights, which emit detectable light particles, can activate the sensor erroneously. For these reasons, we would recommend that a microwave sensor be paired with a PIR motion detector. The strengths of one device can account for the weaknesses of the other. If you're interested in purchasing an advanced microwave detector, we stock the low-profile MWS6-PRM and the adjustable MW3SA-PRM, both from industry leader CP Electronics.Microwave Sensor Lights

The New CP Electronics SPIR-F/C Ceiling Mounted Presence Detector with internal lux sensor

The new CP Electronics SPIR-F/C ceiling-mounted presence detector can be easily mounted onto a single gang standard switch box either surface or flush mounting. The CP Electronics SPIRFC presence detector switches are designed to provide automatic control of lighting, heating, or ventilation loads. They detect movement using a PIR sensor and turn the load on. When an area is no longer occupied the load will switch off after an adjustable time-out period. An adjustable internal light sensor provides additional energy savings in lighting applications. When an area is occupied lighting is only switched on when the level of natural light is below a preset level. When the SPIRFC ceiling presence detector is first powered up the PIR sensor will always detect immediately regardless of whether the room is occupied. The SPIRFC Ceiling Presence Detector - Wiring Diagram The New CP Electronics SPIR-F/C Main Features Ceiling PIR: ceiling-mounted presence detector; Energy saving device from CP Electronics; Internal lux sensor; recessed ceiling device; Load taken: ~ 16 Amp resistive load; ~ 10 Amp incandescent lighting; ~ 6 Amp fluorescent lighting; ~ 3 Amp compact fluorescent lighting; ~ 3 Amp low energy lighting; ~ 3 Amp low voltage lighting (switch primary of transformer); ~ Fluorescent lighting (max 6 fittings recommended); ~ For fluorescent lighting total power factor correction capacitance must not exceed 40microF; ~ 3 Amp fans and ventilation equipment; ~ Switch SON lighting loads via a contactor; Supply Voltage: 220-240 Volts AC 50 Hz; Time out period: Adjustable 10 seconds to 30 minutes; Light Level: Light to dark; Fixing Method: Surface fixing 25mm deep plastic surface mount moulded box.
