FAQs
How do I test my fire alarms?
It is recommended to test the fire and Carbon Monoxide alarms monthly. You can test it directly from the alarm - press the "test" button for 10 seconds. Or use the control switch, where you press the "Test" button. If the alarm sounds when the Test is pressed, the alarm is working fine. See the manufacturer's instructions.
Why is my smoke/heat alarm beeping?
Never ignore the beeping of a fire, heat or smoke alarm! The full alarm sound indicates there's danger, so you need to evacuate the property and check for the fire, and press the fire alarm. If the beeping still sounds after the fire is out, clean and hoover the alarm. See the manufacturer's instructions.
Why is my Carbon Monoxide alarm sounding?
When a CO alarm sounds, most likely there's Carbon Monoxide present. Please turn off any gas appliances, open windows and doors, and leave the property, and return when the alarm stopped ringing. See the manufacturer's instructions.
How do I change the battery?
See the manufacturer's instructions. First, the power needs to be turned off, and with a flat-headed screwdriver, open the alarm by inserting it into the removal slot - see the arrow marking. You can then slide the alarm off its base, and change the battery as needed.
How do I check the age of my alarms?
Most alarms have a 10-year life, after which they should be replaced to ensure you are properly protected. The Aico Alarms have a four-digit code showing you the year and week the alarm was made, and there's a "Replace by" date showing the max. life of the alarm. If your alarm is coming up to its replace by date, it should be replaced.
Does SparksDirect install alarms?
No, we only sell the fire, smoke, heat, and CO alarms; we do not install them. You need to refer to a certified installer.
How to care for the the fire alarms?
It is good to periodically maintain the alarms, especially to remove the dust that may build up. Please see the specific alarm instructions how to clean the alarm.
